Are you ready to read more all about our exciting first week in the USA for the We Are Makers podcast? We are thrilled to share our journey with you as we explored the world of makers and creators across the southern states of America. In this blog post, we'll take you through our experiences in North Georgia, where we met with some incredibly talented individuals and learned more about their craft.
To kick off our trip, we flew from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Atlanta, Georgia, where we rented a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. After a short drive, we arrived at our first location in North Georgia, where we were welcomed with open arms by the lovely Tim and Tracy Cullen.
During the first week of our podcast trip, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to sit down and chat with some of the most talented makers in the region. Our guests included Ryan Krusak, a pen maker who creates stunning writing instruments with intricate designs. We also had the pleasure of interviewing the incredible Paul Hamler who is highly skilled miniature maker who creates incredibly detailed and intricate replicas of tools and firearms. Bill and Shannen Oyster from Oyster Bamboo joined us to share their passion for crafting custom bamboo fly rods as well as sharing a wealth of knowledge that Jack and I took away with us. We also spoke with Bill Wuyak who is the owner of District Leather Supply, a company that provides high-quality leather and leatherworking tools to customers worldwide. Bill is passionate about the art of leatherworking and enjoys sharing his knowledge with customers, providing them with the tools and materials they need to bring their creative ideas to life.
Additionally, we were delighted to interview Melissa B Pottery, a talented potter who creates unique and functional pieces of art with her hands inspired by the ocean. Lastly, we had the honor of speaking with Tim and Tracy Cullen, a husband and wife team who each have their own creative businesses. Tracy makes beautiful pottery, while Tim is a skilled custom fountain pen-maker who has incredible attention to detail.
We were lucky enough to stay with Tracy and Tim Cullen, who were gracious enough to open their home to us. Their hospitality and willingness to share their time with us made our trip even more enjoyable.
Throughout the week, we had a great time recording our interviews and learning more about the craft of each maker we met. We were impressed by the passion and dedication that each of them had for their art, and it was inspiring to see how they turned their passion into successful businesses.
In addition to our interviews, we made sure to indulge in some of the local cuisine. One of our favorite spots was Four41South BBQ in Canton, GA. The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional. Big thanks to the owner Kevin for his hospitality!
Overall, our first week in the USA for the We Are Makers podcast was a fantastic experience and was a week to remember!
We're excited to share more of our journey across America… stay tuned.
